#10 Preparing for BOE Budget Adoption
Summary: Preparing for the Board of Education Budget Adoption
The purpose of this year’s new Budget Blast updates is in response to public encouragement to break down the exhaustive information and complexity of the Board of Education budget development process.

As a recap:

  • The Budget process begins on October 1st, and the recommendation for next year’s budget was formally presented to the Board of Education by the Superintendent on December 4th.

  • The Board of Education then deliberates via weekly BOE Finance Subcommittee meetings and its regular Meetings for nearly two months before adopting the budget by January 31st.

  • The Board of Education then submits the adopted Budget to the First Selectman after its formal adoption.

  • After this, the adopted BOE budget is discussed among the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance from February through April.

  • The School District and Town budgets are voted on by the citizens in early May.

***The Board of Education is hosting a Budget Hearing in the BHS media center at 6pm next Wednesday, January 15th. The public is invited to provide input to the members via public comment about the proposed budget for next year.
